My name is Frank Caronna and I founded Natural Surf Technique in 1989. I teach surf lessons in Santa Monica,Los Angeles and Huntington Beach. I have been affiliated and worked with various great surf shops such as Huntington Surf and Sport, ZJ Boarding House and Val Surf to help all levels of surfers reach their potential. I have coached many up and coming talents sponsored by surf companies like Billabong and Gotcha.
I had a tough childhood that gave me the opportunity to develop instincts and respect at a young age. I spent a lot of time playing sports and deep sea fishing with my father. Spending so much time on the water taught me how to read swells, develop balance and anticipate the changing ocean. All of these things contributed to quick timing and better hand/eye coordination which are critical to surfing and have helped me do a better job at teaching.
I started surfing at the age of 12 and began competing at 14. I did very well and decided to compete in the National Scholastic Surfing Asoociation. The NSSA was very competitive and would be great training grounds for a professional career ahead. I continued surfing in these
events till I was 20 and with some great showings in the Nationals I decided to turn professional. I competed for 8 years, until I was injured a couple times and dropped off the tour.
I now spend my time coaching up and coming talents right down to beginners on how to get their surfing to the next level. I also provide consulting for TV shows.
